Overview
Step-by-step
- 1
Power off the tablet
1 minPress and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons, then select Power Off on the screen. Ensure the device is completely powered down before proceeding.
- 2
Heat the display edges
3 minUse a heat gun on low setting to warm the outer edges of the screen for 2 to 3 minutes. This softens the strong display adhesive underneath.
- 3
Attach a suction cup
1 minPlace a heavy-duty suction cup near the bottom edge of the glass screen. Press down firmly to create a secure seal.
- 4
Insert an opening pick
2 minPull up on the suction cup to create a small gap between the display and the frame. Insert a thin plastic opening pick into the seam.
- 5
Slice the perimeter adhesive
8 minSlide the pick carefully along all four edges of the tablet to separate the screen adhesive. Reapply heat if you feel resistance.
- 6
Lift the display panel
2 minGently hinge the display open from the left side like a book. Do not pull it away completely yet, as fragile ribbon cables are still attached.
- 7
Unscrew the display cable bracket
2 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the small metal bracket covering the display connector. Set the screws aside in a organized tray.
- 8
Disconnect the display ribbon cable
2 minPry the display cable straight up from its socket on the motherboard using a flat plastic spudger. Carefully lift away the display screen.
- 9
Disconnect the battery cable
1 minLocate the main battery connector and use a spudger to pop it straight off the board. This prevents accidental short circuits during repair.
- 10
Remove the daughterboard shield screws
3 minUnscrew the Phillips screws securing the lower daughterboard metal shield near the USB-C port. Lift the shield off with tweezers.
- 11
Disconnect the charging port interconnect flex
2 minUse the pointed end of a spudger to disconnect the flex cable connecting the USB-C daughterboard to the mainboard.
- 12
Remove the USB-C port daughterboard
3 minRemove the final mounting screws securing the USB-C daughterboard. Carefully lift the board out of the tablet chassis.
- 13
Install the new charging port board
3 minAlign the replacement USB-C daughterboard into the lower housing socket. Secure it firmly with the original Phillips screws.
- 14
Reconnect all internal cables and display
10 minReconnect the interconnect flex cable, attach the battery, replace the metal shields, and reconnect the display panel. Reapply fresh pre-cut adhesive before closing the screen.
