Step-by-step

Unplug Cables and Power Down

Remove the Base Stand
2 minLoosen the mounting screw on the bottom of the stand using a flathead screwdriver or coin. Store the screw inside the stand's storage compartment and set the stand aside.

Detach the Top Side Panel
2 minGrasp the top corner of the panel near the PlayStation logo, lift up slightly, and slide the panel toward the bottom of the console to unhook it.

Detach the Bottom Side Panel
2 minFlip the console over, pull up gently on the rear corner of the remaining panel, and slide it toward the base to disengage the locking tabs.

Vacuum Dust Catcher Ports
3 minUse a vacuum cleaner nozzle over the two designated triangular dust catcher holes to extract loose dust buildup inside the frame.

Unscrew the Fan Guard
3 minRemove the four T8 Security Torx screws securing the fan intake grill to the frame. Keep track of which screw came from which hole, as they vary in length.

Remove the Fan Guard
1 minLift the metal fan guard directly upward off the console housing and set it aside.

Remove the Plastic Cable Cover
2 minPry up the small plastic cover shielding the fan cable routing channel near the top of the fan assembly.

Disconnect the Fan Connector
2 minUse a plastic spudger to gently pry the fan cable connector straight up out of its motherboard socket. Do not pull directly on the wires.

Lift Out the Cooling Fan
2 minGrasp the edges of the fan housing and pull the cooling fan straight out of the chassis.

Clean the Cooling Fan
5 minHold the fan blades stationary and blow away trapped dust using compressed air. Wipe down individual blades with a microfiber cloth and high-percentage isopropyl alcohol.

Clear the Heatsink Fins
4 minDirect compressed air into the internal heatsink fins visible inside the open fan cavity to clear dust blockages. Keep the air canister upright during use.

Reinstall the Cooling Fan
2 minLower the cleaned fan back into the housing cavity, aligning its mounting holes with the chassis standoffs.

Reconnect the Fan Connector
2 minAlign the fan connector above the motherboard header and press down firmly until it seats completely. Snap the plastic cable cover back into place.

Secure the Fan Guard
3 minPlace the metal fan guard over the fan and reinstall the four T8 Torx screws into their original locations.

Reattach the Side Panels
3 minAlign the hooks on the side panels with the console frame and slide them upward until they click securely into place. Reattach the base stand.
