Step-by-step

Detach the base stand
2 minUnscrew the central mounting screw from the bottom of the console and lift off the stand.

Remove the top side panel
2 minLift the top-rear corner of the PS5 logo panel slightly and slide it toward the bottom of the console to release it.

Remove the bottom side panel
2 minFlip the console over, lift the top-rear corner of the lower panel, and slide it off.

Unclip the fan intake cover
3 minUse a plastic spudger to release the plastic clips holding the fan intake covers on both sides.

Disconnect the cooling fan
3 minRemove the fan connector cover plate, then lift the fan cable straight up from its motherboard header using tweezers.

Remove the fan assembly
4 minUnscrew the four TR8 Security Torx screws securing the fan housing and lift the fan out of the console.

Remove the chassis housing screws
5 minUnscrew all TR8 Security Torx screws along the perimeter of the black plastic inner frame.

Lift off the plastic housing
2 minCarefully pull the plastic mid-frame away from the inner metal chassis.

Disconnect the antenna cables
3 minUnplug the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth coaxial cables from their connectors on the motherboard using precision tweezers.

Unscrew the main EMI shield
6 minRemove the perimeter Phillips screws holding the large metal heat shield to the motherboard assembly.

Lift off the EMI shield
2 minGently lift the top metal shield away from the motherboard to expose the internal board.

Lift out the motherboard
3 minCarefully remove the main board from the lower heatsink housing.

Locate the CMOS battery
1 minTurn the motherboard over to find the circular CR2032 coin cell battery socket.

Pop out the old CMOS battery
2 minUse a non-conductive plastic spudger to slide under the battery and pop it out from its retaining clip.

Install the new CMOS battery
2 minPress a fresh CR2032 coin cell into the battery holder with the positive (+) side facing up until it snaps in place.

Reassemble the motherboard and shield
4 minPlace the motherboard back onto the lower chassis and align the upper EMI metal shield.
