Safety

Step-by-step

Eject the MicroSD Card
1 minOpen the kickstand on the rear of the Switch console. Press down on the microSD card until it clicks, then release and pull it out.

Remove Y00 Back Shell Screws
3 minUse a Y00 Tri-Point screwdriver to remove the four outer screws located on the back corners of the housing.

Remove Top and Bottom Screws
2 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the single screw on the top edge and the two screws flanking the USB-C port on the bottom edge.

Remove Side Rail Screws
2 minLocate the center Phillips #00 screw on each Joy-Con guide rail and remove both screws.

Lift Off Plastic Rear Cover
1 minGently lift the plastic rear casing straight up off the inner chassis and set it aside.

Unscrew MicroSD Card Reader
2 minRemove the single Phillips #00 screw securing the microSD card reader board to the metal shield.

Disconnect MicroSD Card Reader
2 minPry the foam-covered connector of the microSD card reader straight up from its motherboard socket using a plastic spudger.

Unscrew Aluminum Shield Plate
3 minRemove the six Phillips #00 screws holding the large aluminum thermal shield to the inner frame.

Remove Shield Plate
1 minLift the aluminum shield plate away from the motherboard, exposing the battery and heat sink assembly.

Disconnect Battery Power Connector
2 minPlace the flat edge of a plastic spudger under the battery cable plug and pry straight up to safely isolate power.

Unscrew Copper Heat Pipe
2 minRemove the three Phillips #00 screws securing the copper heat pipe over the Tegra processor.

Remove Copper Heat Pipe
2 minGently lift the copper heat pipe off the board, being careful not to bend the soft copper tube.

Slice Battery Adhesive
5 minApply a few drops of high-concentration isopropyl alcohol around the battery edges, then slide a plastic card beneath the battery to slice the strong adhesive.

Remove Internal Battery
2 minCarefully lift the old battery out of the console compartment without bending or puncturing it.

Install Replacement Power Cell
2 minPlace the new battery into the recessed compartment and press down firmly to secure it against the adhesive strips.

Apply Thermal Compound
3 minClean remaining thermal paste off the processor with alcohol, then apply a small dot of fresh thermal compound before reassembling the heat sink.
