Step-by-step

Power down and remove MicroSD card
2 minEnsure the Switch OLED is completely powered off. Flip open the kickstand and eject the MicroSD card from its slot.

Remove outer rear tri-point screws
3 minUse a Y00 tri-point screwdriver to remove the four corner screws from the back panel.

Remove housing perimeter screws
4 minUse a PH00 Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws along the top edge, bottom edge, and inside the Joy-Con rails.

Lift off rear plastic shell
2 minGently lift the rear housing panel straight up off the device and place it aside.

Disconnect MicroSD card reader board
3 minRemove the single PH00 screw securing the MicroSD card board, then unclip its press-fit connector.

Remove metal heat shield screws
4 minUnscrew the perimeter PH00 Phillips screws anchoring the aluminum heat shield to the internal chassis.

Remove aluminum heat shield

Disconnect display and board ribbon cables
5 minFlip up the zero-insertion-force (ZIF) locking tabs and detach all ribbon cables connected to the motherboard.

Remove motherboard mounting screws
3 minUnscrew all remaining PH00 screws securing the main circuit board to the plastic frame.

Extract motherboard from frame
3 minLift the motherboard out of the lower housing, carefully unclipping the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth antenna cables.

Apply Kapton heat masking
4 minPlace high-temperature Kapton tape over surrounding SMD components near the USB-C/HDMI port to prevent heat damage.

Desolder damaged port using hot air
8 minApply liquid flux to the port pins and heat with a hot air rework station at 380°C until the solder melts, then pull the port free.

Clean solder pads with wick
5 minRemove residual solder from the motherboard contact pads using solder wick and clean the area with isopropyl alcohol.

Solder replacement HDMI port
10 minAlign the new port pins precisely, apply fresh flux, and solder the mounting legs and video pin connections securely.
