Step-by-step

Power off and lay console flat
1 minTurn off the Nintendo Switch 2 completely and place it screen-down on a clean workspace mat.

Remove outer corner screws
2 minUse a Tri-point Y00 screwdriver to remove the four screws from the outer corners of the rear panel.

Remove edge housing screws
2 minUnscrew the top and bottom edge Phillips #00 screws holding the shell frame together.

Remove kickstand screw

Pry off the back cover

Remove the heatsink pipe
1 minGently pry up and remove the copper heat pipe assembly to expose the old thermal compound.

Clean old thermal compound
3 minWipe away hardened thermal paste from the APU and heatsink using isopropyl alcohol and lint-free wipes.

Disconnect the cooling fan cable
1 minFlip up the small ZIF connector retaining flap and slide the cooling fan ribbon cable out using tweezers.

Remove cooling fan screws
2 minRemove the three Phillips screws securing the internal fan to the plastic frame.

Replace or clean cooling fan
2 minLift the old fan out, blast any dust out of the exhaust vents with compressed air, and set the new fan in place.

Secure the new fan
2 minReinstall the fan screws and push the ribbon cable back into the motherboard socket, locking the latch.

Apply fresh thermal paste
1 minPlace a small, pea-sized drop of high-grade thermal paste onto the center of the clean APU die.

Reinstall heatsink assembly
2 minLower the copper heatsink onto the APU and tighten the three spring-loaded screws in an alternating pattern.

Reconnect battery and reassemble outer shell
4 minPress the battery plug into the motherboard, place the shield back on, and resecure all external housing screws.
