Despite its improved thermal efficiency and refined internal architecture, the PS4 Slim is subject to predictable wear and tear over years of consistent thermal cycling. One of the most frequent hardware failures is damaged HDMI output ports. Because the port is soldered directly to the mainboard without heavy physical reinforcement, minor stress on the HDMI cable—such as drops, accidental tugs, or frequent travel—can bend internal pins or break tiny solder connections, leading to a "no display" state or erratic signal drops.

This causes the internal fan to run continuously at maximum pitch to prevent thermal shutdown. Left unaddressed, persistent overheating can cause localized board warping or component failure.
Storage performance is another common area of maintenance. The original 2.5-inch mechanical SATA hard drive shipped inside the PS4 Slim is prone to bad sectors and mechanical degradation over thousands of operating hours. Failure manifests as sluggish system menus, infinite loading screens, corrupted database prompts, or failure to boot past the recovery menu. Swapping the mechanical drive for a standard 2.5-inch SATA solid-state drive (SSD) is one of the most effective user upgrades, drastically reducing load times and restoring overall system stability.
