Laptop Will Not Turn On At All

When your laptop completely refuses to power on—with no lights, sound, or screen response—the culprit is usually a power delivery failure, a bad battery, or board-level protection. Follow this DIY triage guide to isolate the cause.

What's going on

When a laptop is completely dead—showing no indicator lights, fan movement, or display output—the system is failing to complete its basic power-on sequence. Laptops rely on a chain of power distribution: current travels from the wall outlet through the AC adapter, enters via the DC jack, passes through main power MOSFETs and protection circuits on the motherboard, and feeds the Embedded Controller (EC).
