Step-by-step

Power off the device
2 minPress and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons, then select Power Off. Eject and remove the SIM card tray using a SIM ejector tool.

3 minApply a heat gun set to low heat around the outer edges of the rear glass cover for 2 to 3 minutes. This softens the factory adhesive securing the panel.

1 minPlace a suction cup near the bottom edge of the back glass. Pull upward firmly to create a tiny gap between the glass and the frame.

Slice rear glass adhesive
4 minInsert a thin plastic prying pick into the gap. Gently slide the pick around all four edges of the back panel to cut through the perimeter adhesive.

Lift off rear glass

3 minUse a Phillips #000 precision screwdriver to remove all screws securing the wireless charging coil and NFC assembly.

Remove wireless charging coil assembly

Disconnect the battery connectors

3 minRemove the Phillips #000 screws securing the upper motherboard protective midframe bracket.

Remove upper motherboard bracket
2 minPry up the plastic motherboard midframe bracket with a spudger and remove it from the device frame.

Disconnect volume button flex cable
1 minLocate the volume key flex cable ZIF connector on the upper motherboard edge. Use a spudger to carefully lever the connector straight up.

Peel volume button flex cable
3 minInsert precision tweezers under the volume button flex cable along the inside of the frame cutout. Carefully peel the adhesive-backed cable away from the chassis.

Remove physical button keycaps
2 minIf replacing the outer keys, use tweezers to push the metallic volume button keycaps inward from the outside wall and unclip them.

Install replacement volume flex cable
2 minAlign the new volume button flex cable into the frame recessed channel. Press firmly down along the cable body so the adhesive adheres securely to the chassis.
