Step-by-step

Power Off Device
1 minPress and hold the power button on the right side of the device. Select 'Power off' on the screen and confirm shut down.

Remove Back Cover
1 minInsert a plastic opening tool into the notch at the top or bottom of the rear cover. Pry gently upward to release the clips securing the back cover.

Remove Battery
1 minLocate the recess at the bottom edge of the battery compartment. Lift the battery up and out of the housing.

Eject SIM Card
1 minPress down slightly on the SIM card and slide it out of its spring-loaded tray. Store it safely off to the side.

Unscrew Midframe
3 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the seven screws securing the rear midframe to the front assembly.

Unclip Rear Midframe
3 minInsert a plastic spudger into the seam between the chrome bezel and the rear midframe. Work around the perimeter to release all retaining plastic clips.

Disconnect Coaxial Antenna
2 minUse tweezers to carefully lift the coaxial antenna cable head straight up off its motherboard connector near the bottom.

Disconnect Display Connector
2 minPry the display flex cable connector straight up from the top section of the motherboard using a plastic opening tool.

Remove Mainboard Screw
2 minLocate and remove the single Phillips screw holding the motherboard assembly to the display frame.

Lift Motherboard
3 minGently lift the motherboard from the bottom edge and remove it from the front housing. Locate the original microphone at the bottom edge of the board.

Desolder Defective Microphone
5 minApply heat to the microphone solder pads using a soldering iron while gently pulling the old microphone off with tweezers.

Solder Replacement Microphone
5 minPosition the new microphone over the clean pads and solder each terminal pin firmly to the motherboard.
