Step-by-step

Power off the device

Heat the back cover edges

Attach a suction cup
1 minPlace a suction cup on the lower third of the back cover. Pull upward firmly to create a slim gap between the cover and the frame.

Slice the cover adhesive
4 minInsert an opening pick into the gap and slide it slowly along the sides and bottom edge to sever the glue.

Disconnect the fingerprint sensor flex
2 minSlightly lift the back cover, then use a spudger to pop the fingerprint reader ribbon cable off the motherboard before removing the cover completely.

Unscrew the lower speaker housing
2 minRemove the Phillips #00 screws securing the bottom speaker cover assembly to the frame.

Remove the speaker housing
1 minInsert a spudger under the lip of the speaker enclosure and lift it up to reveal the sub-board.

Disconnect the main sub-board flex cable
1 minUse the flat end of a spudger to pry the interconnect flex cable straight up from its connector on the sub-board.

Disconnect the coaxial antenna cable
1 minGently pry the antenna connector off the sub-board using precision tweezers.

Remove the microphone sub-board
2 minPry beneath the edges of the sub-board with a spudger to release it from the chassis adhesive and lift it out.

Install the replacement microphone board
2 minAlign the new sub-board containing the microphone into the bottom recess and press it flat into place.
