Step-by-step

Power Down the Device
1 minPress and hold the power button on the right edge, then tap 'Power off' on the screen to completely shut down the device.

Eject the SIM Card Tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the small hole on the left edge of the phone and press firmly to pop out the tray.

Heat the Back Cover
2 minUse a heat gun or hair dryer to heat the edges of the back cover for two minutes to soften the adhesive underneath.

Attach Suction Cup
1 minPress a suction cup onto the lower portion of the rear panel and gently pull upward to create a slight gap.

Insert Opening Pick
2 minSlide a thin plastic opening pick into the seam between the plastic rear cover and the midframe.

Slice Back Cover Adhesive
4 minCarefully slide the opening pick along all four sides of the phone to slice through the rear panel adhesive.

Lift Back Cover Gently
2 minSwing the back cover open toward the left side, being careful not to rip the attached fingerprint sensor flex cable.

Disconnect Fingerprint Sensor
1 minUse the flat end of a spudger to pop the fingerprint reader press connector off the motherboard.

Remove Motherboard Shield Screws
3 minUse a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove the screws securing the upper motherboard shield.

Remove Motherboard Shield
2 minLift the plastic motherboard shield using tweezers and set it aside.

Disconnect Battery Flex Cable
1 minPry the battery cable connector straight up from the motherboard using a plastic spudger to eliminate electrical power.

Disconnect Display Flex Cable
1 minPry up the screen display connector from its socket on the motherboard using your spudger.

Heat the Front Screen
3 minApply heat around the front glass perimeter using a heat gun for 2 to 3 minutes to loosen the display adhesive.

Slice Front Glass Adhesive
4 minPlace a suction cup on the glass, lift gently, and insert an opening pick to cut through the front adhesive perimeter.

Remove Damaged Screen
2 minSeparate the display panel from the frame, threading the attached display flex ribbon through the slot in the frame.

Clean the Frame Perimeter
5 minScrape off all remaining screen adhesive and small glass splinters using a spudger and isopropyl alcohol.

Apply New Display Adhesive
4 minLine the inner edges of the phone frame with double-sided adhesive strips.

Install New Screen
3 minThread the ribbon cable of the replacement screen through the frame slot and press the screen flat into the housing.

Reconnect Display and Battery
2 minPress the display flex cable and battery flex cable firmly back onto their motherboard connectors.

Secure Motherboard Shield
3 minPlace the upper motherboard shield back over the board and tighten the Phillips #000 screws.

Reconnect Fingerprint Cable
2 minAlign and press down the fingerprint sensor flex cable onto its connector on the motherboard.

Reattach Back Cover
2 minAlign the rear cover with the frame and press firmly along the perimeter until it snaps securely into place.
