Step-by-step

Power off the phone
1 minPress and hold the power button, then select Power Off to completely turn off the device.

Eject the SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the pinhole on the upper left edge and push to pop out the card tray.

Heat the rear cover
2 minApply a heat gun or heated iOpener along the perimeter of the back panel for two minutes to soften the adhesive.

Insert an opening pick
2 minAttach a suction handle to the lower back cover, pull upward to create a small gap, and insert an opening pick.

Slice the perimeter adhesive
4 minSlide the pick around all four edges of the back cover to cut through the glue, taking care around the fingerprint sensor area.

Lift the rear cover
1 minGently lift the back cover up and away from the phone frame, taking care not to strain any attached adhesive.

Unscrew the lower speaker housing
3 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the five screws securing the lower loudspeaker assembly.

Remove the loudspeaker assembly
2 minInsert the flat end of a spudger under the speaker cover notch and pry up to detach it from the phone frame.

Disconnect the interconnect flex cable
1 minPry straight up on the press connector joining the main interconnect cable to the lower daughterboard.

Disconnect the antenna cable
1 minUse tweezers to carefully pry up the coaxial antenna connector from the daughterboard socket.

Pry up the daughterboard
2 minInsert a spudger underneath the lower daughterboard and pry it out from the frame recess to remove the old microphone.

Position the new daughterboard
2 minSet the replacement daughterboard containing the new primary microphone into the bottom frame recess.

Reconnect the antenna cable
1 minAlign the coaxial antenna head over its socket on the daughterboard and press down gently until it snaps into place.

Attach the interconnect flex cable
1 minAlign the main flex cable connector over the daughterboard terminal and press firmly to secure it.

Reinstall the loudspeaker assembly
1 minPlace the loudspeaker cover back over the daughterboard and press down evenly around the edges.

Secure the speaker screws
3 minReinstall and tighten the five Phillips #00 screws to hold the loudspeaker assembly firmly in position.

Reseal the back cover
3 minApply new adhesive tape along the perimeter of the phone chassis and press the back cover down tightly to seal.
