Step-by-step

Power off the phone
1 minPress and hold the power button, then select Power Off on the screen. Ensure the device is completely shut down before starting.

Remove the SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the hole next to the SIM tray. Press firmly to eject the tray and pull it out.

Heat the rear panel
3 minApply a heat gun or iOpener around the outer edges of the back cover for 2 minutes to soften the adhesive.

Slice perimeter adhesive
4 minInsert a plastic opening pick under the plastic back cover seam. Slide the pick around all edges to free the panel.

Disconnect fingerprint cable
2 minSlightly lift the rear panel and use tweezers to detach the fingerprint sensor flex cable from the motherboard.

Remove upper shield screws
3 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the screws securing the upper plastic motherboard cover.

Detach upper motherboard shield
2 minPry up the plastic cover shield with a plastic opening tool and lift it away from the frame.

Disconnect the battery cable
1 minUse a plastic spudger to pop the battery connector straight up off its socket on the logic board.

Disconnect camera modules
2 minUnplug the rear camera and front camera flex cables from the logic board using a spudger.

Disconnect interconnect ribbon cables
2 minUnsnap the display cable and lower sub-board ribbon cable connectors from the main board.

Unclip antenna coaxial cable
2 minUse fine-tip tweezers to gently lift the antenna cable connector off its motherboard terminal.

Remove motherboard mounting screws
2 minUnscrew the remaining Phillips #00 screws holding the logic board to the phone chassis.

Lift out the logic board
2 minCarefully pry the logic board upward from the top edge and lift it out of the plastic housing.

Clean solder joints and reflow components
10 minApply flux to cracked solder joints on the board and touch up connections using a fine-tip soldering iron.

Reinstall logic board and reassemble
5 minPlace the board back in the chassis, reconnect all internal flex cables, and secure the frame screws.
