Step-by-step

Power off the phone
1 minPress and hold the power button until the power options appear on screen. Tap 'Power off' and wait for the device to shut down completely.

Remove the back cover
2 minInsert a plastic opening tool into the notch on the bottom edge of the cover. Pry gently upward to unclip the rear shell from the chassis.

Remove the battery

3 minInsert a plastic opening tool between the front glass assembly and the midframe outer rim. Pry along the perimeter to release the plastic retaining clips.

Lift off the midframe assembly
1 minCarefully remove the plastic midframe assembly from the internal housing and place it face down.

Pry out the old speaker module
2 minUse fine-tip tweezers or a flat spudger to pry the small loudspeaker module out of its recessed housing in the midframe.

Clean the spring contact pads
2 minDampen a cotton swab with high-concentration isopropyl alcohol and clean the metallic contact pads on the motherboard.

Install the new speaker module
2 minPress the replacement speaker into the lower cavity of the midframe until it seats firmly and flush.

Align and seat the midframe
2 minPosition the midframe cover over the phone body and press down around the edges until you hear all the clips snap closed.

Secure the midframe screws
4 minReinsert and tighten the ten Phillips #00 screws in a crisscross pattern until snug.

Reinsert the SIM and microSD cards
1 minPush your SIM card and microSD card back into their respective slots until fully seated.

Reinstall the battery
1 minAlign the gold contacts on the battery with the matching pins in the phone's battery bay and press it down flat.
