Safety
- Power down the device completely before performing any disassembly.
- Wear an anti-static wrist strap to avoid damaging delicate electronic sub-boards.
- Do not puncture or bend the battery when detaching it from the modular chin.
Overview
Step-by-step

Power off device
1 minPress and hold the power button on the back of the phone, then select Power Off on the screen.

Press module release button
1 minLocate the module release button on the lower-left side of the frame and press it firmly.

Remove lower chin module
1 minGrasp the bottom chin module and slide it straight out from the phone chassis.

Detach battery from module
1 minFirmly pull the battery away from the chin module while twisting slightly to unclip it.

Eject SIM card tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the hole on the right edge of the phone to remove the tray.

Remove lower housing screws
2 minUse a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove the two screws located inside the bottom module cavity.

Insert opening pick
2 minInsert a plastic opening pick into the thin seam between the display glass and the rear housing.

Unclip display assembly
3 minSlide the pick around the perimeter of the phone to release all internal plastic clips.

Separate display from chassis
2 minCarefully lift the display assembly away from the rear aluminum casing.

Pry open lower chin housing
2 minUse a spudger to gently unclip the plastic outer housing of the lower module assembly.

Disconnect microphone flex
2 minUse tweezers to carefully lift the microphone board and flex cable out of the lower housing.

Remove faulty microphone
1 minLift the microphone rubber boot and module out of the lower chin frame.

Install new microphone
2 minPlace the replacement microphone unit into the rubber housing and align it inside the bottom module.

Reassemble lower module housing
2 minSnap the lower chin module plastic cover back over the daughterboard until all clips engage.

Reattach display assembly
2 minAlign the screen with the rear casing and press firmly along the edges until it snaps closed.

Fasten internal screws
2 minReinstall the two Phillips #000 screws into the lower end of the phone chassis.

Reinsert battery and module
1 minClip the battery back onto the chin module and slide the assembly into the phone until locked.

Power the G5 back on and test the microphone repair function before you put every screw away. Check touch/display response, charging, cameras, buttons, and wireless as relevant to this repair.
