Step-by-step

Discharge battery
1 minEnsure the phone's battery is discharged below 25% before starting work. This minimizes the risk of fire if the battery is accidentally punctured.

Power off device
1 minPress and hold the power button, then select power off on the screen. Disconnect all charging cables from the device.

Eject SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the pinhole on the side of the phone. Push firmly until the SIM tray pops out, then remove it.

Heat rear panel
3 minApply a heated iOpener or heat gun around the edges of the back cover for two minutes. This softens the internal waterproof adhesive.

Attach suction cup
1 minPlace a suction cup on the lower portion of the rear glass cover. Press down firmly to secure a tight seal.

Insert opening pick
2 minPull up on the suction cup to create a slight gap at the bottom edge. Slide a plastic opening pick into the gap between the glass and frame.

Slice perimeter adhesive
4 minSlide the pick around all four edges of the device to cut through the adhesive. Reapply heat if the pick meets heavy resistance.

Lift rear panel
2 minGently lift the back cover off the chassis. Be careful not to strain any sensor cables connected near the camera housing.

Unscrew midframe shield
3 minUse a T3 Torx screwdriver to remove the screws securing the midframe cover. Keep the screws organized for reassembly.

Remove midframe panel
2 minUse plastic tweezers to lift the midframe panel and wireless charging array away from the motherboard assembly.

Disconnect battery cable
1 minPry up the main battery press connector from the motherboard using the flat end of a plastic spudger. Never use metal tools near the battery.

Disconnect charging flex
1 minUse a spudger to detach the USB-C daughterboard interconnect flex cable from the main logic board.

Unscrew USB port board
2 minRemove the T3 Torx screws securing the USB-C daughterboard assembly to the bottom edge of the frame.

Remove USB port board
2 minGently pry beneath the USB-C port board using a spudger and lift the damaged charging port assembly out of the phone.

Install new USB port
2 minPosition the replacement USB-C charging board into the lower frame recess. Press down gently until it aligns with the screw posts.

Secure USB port screws
2 minReinstall and tighten the T3 Torx screws to firmly attach the new charging port board to the frame.
