Step-by-step

Power Off Device
1 minTurn off your iPhone XS completely before beginning any disassembly to prevent electrical short circuits.

Remove Pentalobe Screws
2 minUnscrew the two 6.8 mm P2 Pentalobe screws located on either side of the Lightning charging port.

Heat Screen Edge
2 minApply a heat gun or hair dryer around the bottom perimeter of the display for two minutes to soften the adhesive seal.

Attach Suction Cup
1 minPress a suction cup firmly onto the lower half of the screen just above the Lightning port.

Separate Screen Adhesive
3 minPull up on the suction cup while inserting a plastic pry tool into the seam to slice through the display adhesive.

Open Display Assembly
1 minSwing the screen open to the right side like a book cover, resting it against a stable object.

Unscrew Bracket Covers
2 minRemove the five Y000 tri-point screws holding the logic board cover brackets in place.

Disconnect Battery Cable
1 minUse the pointed end of a spudger to pop the battery connector straight up off the logic board socket.

Disconnect Display Cables
2 minDisconnect the OLED screen cable and touch sensor cable from their sockets using a plastic spudger.

Remove Display Assembly
1 minLift the display assembly free from the rear housing and set it aside in a safe spot.

Unscrew Loudspeaker
2 minRemove the three Phillips screws securing the lower speaker enclosure to the bottom of the frame.

Remove Speaker
1 minPry up gently with a spudger and lift the lower loudspeaker out of the phone.

Unscrew Taptic Engine
1 minRemove the two screws securing the Taptic Engine vibration motor to the housing.

Remove Taptic Engine
1 minDisconnect the Taptic Engine flex cable and lift the motor out of the rear case using tweezers.

Unscrew Microphone Assembly
3 minRemove the remaining screws holding the Lightning connector assembly and bottom microphone down.

Peel Old Flex Assembly
2 minGently slide a spudger under the microphone and dock flex assembly to release the adhesive backing.

Install Replacement Microphone Assembly
3 minAlign the new microphone and flex assembly inside the housing, press it down firmly, and resecure all screws.
