Step-by-step

Power off the iPhone
1 minTurn off your iPhone XS completely before starting any disassembly to prevent electrical damage.

Remove bottom Pentalobe screws
2 minUse a P2 Pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two 6.8 mm screws on either side of the Lightning port.

Warm the lower display edge
2 minApply a heat gun or hair dryer to the bottom edge of the phone for two minutes to soften the screen adhesive.

Attach suction cup tool
1 minPlace a suction cup onto the lower half of the display screen just above the Lightning port.

Pry open lower screen seam
3 minPull up firmly on the suction cup to create a small gap, then insert a plastic opening pick into the bottom seam.

Slice perimeter display adhesive
3 minSlide the pick carefully around the left and right edges to cut through the waterproof seal holding the screen.

Open display to the right
1 minSwing the display open from the left edge like a book cover, leaning it against a rigid support.

Remove logic board bracket screws
2 minUse a Y000 tri-point driver to remove the five screws securing the lower display connector bracket.

Disconnect the battery cable
1 minUse the flat end of a spudger to pry the battery connector straight up from its socket.

Disconnect OLED display cables
2 minUnplug the OLED display flex cable and the digitizer touch cable from the logic board.

Disconnect sensor array and remove display
2 minDisconnect the front sensor assembly cable and lift the display entirely away from the chassis.

Unscrew the loudspeaker assembly
3 minRemove the Phillips and Tri-point screws securing the loudspeaker at the bottom of the enclosure.

Lift out the loudspeaker
2 minGently pry up the speaker module using a spudger and remove it from the phone.

Unbolt the Taptic Engine
2 minRemove the screws holding the Taptic Engine to the frame, then disconnect its flex connector.

Remove the Taptic Engine
1 minLift the Taptic Engine straight out of the lower chassis with tweezers.

Disconnect Lightning flex cable
1 minPry the Lightning connector cable off its motherboard socket near the bottom of the logic board.

Unscrew the charging port housing
3 minRemove the remaining Phillips screws holding the Lightning port, microphones, and grounding brackets to the frame.

Peel up and remove assembly
2 minGently peel the charging port flex cable away from the internal frame and lift out the assembly.
