Step-by-step

Power off the iPhone
1 minPress and hold the Power button until the slide-to-power-off control appears. Slide to turn off the phone completely before beginning.

Remove the Pentalobe screws
2 minUse a P2 Pentalobe driver to remove the two 3.6 mm screws located at the bottom edge on either side of the Lightning connector.

Attach the suction cup
1 minPress a heavy-duty suction cup onto the lower portion of the screen, placing it directly above the Home button.

Pry open the front display
3 minPull up firmly on the suction cup while inserting a plastic prying tool into the seam above the headphone jack to release the lower clips.

Prop up the screen assembly
2 minCarefully swing the display open to a 90-degree angle from the rear casing. Lean it against a box or wall so it does not pull on top cables.

Remove the battery bracket screws
2 minUse a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove the two screws securing the metal battery bracket to the logic board.

1 minUse the flat edge of a plastic spudger to pry the battery connector straight up out of its socket.

Unscrew the vibrator assembly
2 minRemove the two 1.5 mm Phillips #000 screws anchoring the vibrator motor to the lower right side of the rear casing.

Remove the defective vibrator motor
2 minUse a pair of tweezers to lift the original vibrator motor out of the phone chassis.

Position the new vibrator motor
2 minSet the replacement vibrator motor into the housing, aligning the spring contact pads with the matching contacts on the flex cable.

Fasten the vibrator motor screws
2 minReinstall and tighten the two 1.5 mm Phillips screws to lock the replacement motor securely in place.

Reconnect the battery cable
1 minAlign the battery connector over its logic board socket and press down firmly until it snaps into place.

Reinstall the battery bracket
2 minPlace the metal battery bracket over the cable interface and tighten the two Phillips screws to secure it.

Close the display assembly
3 minLower the display onto the rear case, aligning the top plastic tabs first, then press firmly around the edges until the side clips snap shut.

Reinstall the bottom Pentalobe screws
2 minInsert and tighten the two 3.6 mm Pentalobe screws next to the Lightning port using your P2 driver.
