Step-by-step
- 1
Power off the iPhone
1 minPress and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the slider appears, then slide to turn off the iPhone completely.

Remove the bottom Pentalobe screws
2 minUse a P2 Pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two 3.6 mm screws on either side of the Lightning port.

Attach suction cup to display
1 minPlace a suction cup on the lower left corner of the front glass panel just above the Home button.

Pry open the front display
3 minPull up on the suction cup while inserting a plastic opening tool under the bottom edge to pop open the clips.

Remove the battery connector bracket
2 minUnscrew the two Phillips #000 screws holding down the metal battery connector bracket and lift it out.

Disconnect the battery cable
1 minUse the edge of a plastic spudger to gently lift the battery connector straight up out of its socket.

Remove the display cable bracket
3 minRemove the five Phillips screws holding the upper display cable bracket and lift the bracket out of the case.

Disconnect the display flex cables
3 minDisconnect the front camera, digitizer, display, and home button cables from their board connectors.

Eject the SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool or paperclip into the pinhole on the side of the iPhone to release the SIM tray.

Disconnect top and bottom logic board cables
4 minDisconnect the rear camera, volume button, power button, and antenna cables from the surface of the logic board.

Remove logic board mounting screws
4 minUnscrew the standoff screws and remaining Phillips screws anchoring the top and bottom of the board to the case.

Extract the logic board
2 minGently pivot the top of the logic board out of the enclosure, taking care not to catch any unhooked flex cables.

Clean damaged solder joints
8 minApply liquid flux to the targeted surface contacts and use desoldering braid with a fine-tip soldering iron to remove old solder.

Reinstall the logic board
5 minLower the repaired logic board back into the aluminum housing, ensuring all ribbon cables rest above the board.
