Step-by-step

Power off the iPhone
1 minPress and hold the side button and either volume button, then slide to power down completely.

Remove bottom pentalobe screws
2 minUse a P2 Pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two 6.7 mm screws located on either side of the Lightning port.

Heat lower display edge
2 minApply a heat gun or hair dryer to the bottom edge of the phone for 1 to 2 minutes to soften the adhesive.

Attach suction cup
1 minPress a suction cup onto the lower half of the display assembly, just above the Lightning port.

Slice bottom adhesive
2 minPull up firmly on the suction cup to create a small gap, then insert an opening pick into the bottom edge.

Slice left side adhesive
2 minSlide the opening pick around the lower-left corner and up the left edge to cut through the screen seal.

Slice right side adhesive
2 minReinsert the pick at the bottom and slide it up the right edge to separate the adhesive.

Open display like a book
1 minGently lift the display from the left edge and swing it open to the right side, leaning it against a solid object.

Unscrew battery bracket
2 minUse a Y000 tri-point screwdriver to remove the two screws securing the battery cover bracket.

Remove battery bracket
1 minUse tweezers to lift the metal battery connector cover plate out of the frame.

Disconnect battery
1 minPry the battery press connector straight up from its motherboard socket using a plastic spudger.

Unscrew display cable cover
2 minRemove the two Y000 tri-point screws holding down the main display cable bracket.

Disconnect display cables
2 minPry up the display cable connector and digitizer cable connector from their sockets on the logic board.

Separate display assembly
1 minLift the display assembly completely away from the phone frame.

Unscrew sensor speaker assembly
3 minUse a Precision Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove the four screws holding the speaker and sensor assembly.

Fold back earpiece speaker
2 minGently flip the earpiece speaker unit down and away from the top edge of the display panel.

Pry up ambient light sensors
3 minSlide a flat spudger under the proximity sensor and ambient light sensor to release them from their display notches.

Transfer sensors to new screen
3 minAlign and press the earpiece speaker and sensor array into the corresponding slots on the replacement screen.

Apply perimeter adhesive seal
4 minClean remaining adhesive from the phone frame with isopropyl alcohol, then press the new adhesive strip into place.
