Step-by-step

Power off device
1 minPress and hold the side button and volume down button, then slide to power off your iPhone.

Remove Pentalobe screws
2 minUse a P2 Pentalobe driver to remove the two 6.7 mm screws on the bottom edge of the iPhone.

Heat bottom edge
2 minApply a heat gun or hairdryer to the bottom edge of the phone for two minutes to soften display adhesive.

Attach suction cup
1 minPlace a suction cup on the lower half of the display assembly, just above the lightning port.

Create initial gap
2 minPull up on the suction cup with firm, constant pressure to create a slight gap between screen and frame.

Insert opening pick
2 minInsert an opening pick into the gap under the lower edge of the screen.

Slice bottom adhesive
2 minSlide the pick around the bottom-left corner to slice through the adhesive seal.

Slice left edge adhesive
3 minSlide the opening pick up the left side of the iPhone towards the top edge.

Slice right edge adhesive
3 minRe-insert the pick at the bottom edge and slice up the right side of the phone.

Open display assembly
2 minSwing the display open from the left edge like the cover of a book.

Remove lower bracket screws
3 minUnscrew the three Y000 screws securing the lower connector bracket to the logic board.

Remove lower connector bracket
2 minUse tweezers to carefully lift and remove the lower metal bracket from the phone.

Disconnect battery cable
2 minUse the edge of a spudger to pry the battery connector straight up from its socket.

Remove upper bracket screws
3 minUnscrew the five Y000 screws holding the display cable shield in place.

Remove upper bracket
2 minLift the display connector shield off the logic board using tweezers.

Disconnect display cables
2 minPry up the OLED display connector and digitizer connector using the flat end of a spudger.

Detach display assembly
2 minLift the display assembly completely away from the rear enclosure.

Unpeel adhesive pull tabs
3 minUse tweezers to peel back the black adhesive pull tabs at the top and bottom of the battery.

Pull bottom adhesive strips
5 minSlowly pull each bottom adhesive strip straight out parallel to the phone frame until released.

Pull top adhesive strips
5 minSlowly pull the top adhesive strips out horizontally away from the battery top.

Pry battery loose
4 minIf any adhesive remains, apply high-concentration isopropyl alcohol along the edge and gently pry with a plastic spudger.

Lift out old battery
2 minLift the depleted battery out of the rear enclosure and dispose of it safely.
