Step-by-step

Remove the base stand
2 minTurn the thumbscrew counterclockwise and detach the base stand from the bottom of the console.

Slide off the side panels
2 minLift the top back corner of each white side panel and slide them toward the bottom to release the locking tabs.

Unscrew the fan cover
3 minUse a T8 Security Torx driver to remove the four screws securing the fan intake grill.

Disconnect and lift out the fan
3 minUnclip the cable cover, carefully unplug the fan connector from the board, and lift the fan straight out.

Remove the inner plastic frame screws
5 minUnscrew the perimeter T8 Security Torx screws holding the black plastic mid-frame to the main body.

Detach the plastic inner cover
2 minLift the plastic mid-frame straight up away from the metal interior shield.

Disconnect the optical drive
4 minDisconnect the ribbon cable connecting the disc drive to the motherboard and lift the optical drive away.

Unplug the power supply harness
3 minDisconnect the main power harness connecting the PSU to the motherboard assembly.

Remove the metal shield screws
6 minRemove all perimeter Phillips #1 screws holding the upper metal EMI shield in place.

Lift off the top heat shield
3 minGently pull the top metal heat shield away from the assembly to expose the top side of the motherboard.

Disconnect the Wi-Fi antenna cables
2 minUse tweezers to carefully unsnap the coaxial antenna connectors from the motherboard.

Extract the motherboard from the chassis
5 minCarefully lift the motherboard straight up, keeping it level to avoid disturbing the liquid metal thermal interface.

Clean old liquid metal off APU
10 minUse foam-tipped swabs and 99% isopropyl alcohol to carefully wipe away liquid metal from the APU die.

Inspect board components
10 minExamine fuses, capacitors, and HDMI lines with a magnifying glass and multimeter to isolate board issues.
