Step-by-step

Remove the base stand
2 minUnscrew the coin screw at the base of the console and detach the stand. Store the screw inside the stand's integrated storage compartment.

Slide off the top side plate
2 minPull up gently on the back corner of the top cover near the PlayStation logo and slide it toward the bottom of the console. Lift the plate away once unlatched.

Detach the bottom side plate
2 minGrasp the rear corner of the bottom panel, lift it slightly, and slide it toward the base of the chassis to release the locking tabs.

Remove the fan intake covers
2 minUnclip the flexible plastic fan intake grills from both sides of the frame using a plastic opening tool.

Unscrew the cooling fan frame
3 minRemove the four Torx T8 security screws securing the cooling fan array to the chassis.

Disconnect and remove the fan
2 minDisconnect the fan cable connector from the motherboard with tweezers, then lift the cooling fan straight out of the housing.

Remove the main heat shield screws
5 minUnscrew all perimeter Torx T8 and Phillips screws securing the top metal heat shield to the internal assembly.

Lift off the metal heatsink cover
3 minCarefully lift the upper metal heat shield away from the chassis to expose the motherboard.

Disconnect the optical drive and interconnect ribbon cables
4 minFlip up the ZIF locking tabs and disconnect the ribbon cables attached to the motherboard using fine tweezers.

Extract the motherboard assembly
3 minLift the motherboard along with its attached lower shield out of the plastic outer casing.

Separate the motherboard from the lower shield
4 minRemove the remaining perimeter screws and carefully lift the motherboard off the lower heatsink plate.

Apply flux to the damaged HDMI port
2 minCoat the anchor legs and ground pins of the broken HDMI port with liquid or paste rosin flux.

Desolder the damaged HDMI port
8 minHeat the underside of the HDMI port pads evenly with a hot air rework station until the solder melts, then lift the port off with tweezers.

Clean the motherboard solder pads
5 minRemove residual solder from pads using desoldering wick and a soldering iron, then clean the area with 99% isopropyl alcohol.

Solder the replacement HDMI port
10 minPosition the new HDMI port, solder the structural anchor posts, and carefully drag-solder each signal pin to its corresponding pad.

Inspect the solder connections
3 minExamine the newly soldered pins under magnification to confirm there are no solder bridges or loose joints before reassembling.
