Safety
- Always disconnect the AC power cord before opening the console.

Overview
Step-by-step

Disconnect all cables
1 minPower off the console completely and unplug all power, HDMI, and USB cables. Wait at least 5 minutes for internal components to discharge.

Remove the base stand
2 minTurn the coin screw on the base stand counterclockwise to remove it. Store the screw in the built-in compartment of the stand.

Detach the top cover panel
2 minPosition the console with the PlayStation logo facing up. Lift the top-left corner of the panel slightly and slide it toward the bottom of the console to release it.

Detach the bottom cover panel
2 minFlip the console over so the disc drive side faces up. Lift the top-right corner of the lower cover and slide it off the chassis.

Unclip the fan cable cover
2 minUse a plastic spudger to carefully unhook and lift the small black plastic cover guarding the fan wire channel.

Remove the fan grill screws
3 minUse a TR8 Security Torx screwdriver to remove the four screws securing the fan intake grill to the frame.

Lift off the fan grill
1 minLift the metal fan intake grill straight up from the top of the fan assembly and set it aside.

Disconnect the fan cable
2 minUse tweezers to grasp the sides of the white fan cable connector and pull it straight out from the motherboard socket. Do not pull on the wires directly.

Remove the old fan assembly
1 minGrasp the fan housing and lift the old cooling fan straight out of the console recess.

Insert the replacement fan
2 minLower the new fan assembly into the console housing, aligning the mounting holes with the screw posts.

Plug in the fan connector
2 minAlign the replacement fan connector with the motherboard port and press it firmly into place using tweezers.

Reinstall the fan grill
1 minPlace the metal fan intake grill back over the new fan assembly, matching the original screw hole alignment.

Secure the fan screws
3 minDrive the four TR8 Security Torx screws back into place to lock down the fan grill and assembly.

Snap on the fan cable cover
1 minGuide the fan wire into its channel and press the plastic cable cover down until it snaps securely into place.

Reattach the outer panels
3 minAlign the side covers with the slots on the chassis and slide them toward the top until you hear a firm locking click.

Reattach the base stand
2 minAlign the base stand with the mounting hole at the bottom of the console and tighten the coin screw until snug.
