Unplug and power down

Separate the drive enclosure halves
3 minUse a plastic spudger to release the plastic clips along the edge and open the internal drive casing.

Inspect the laser lens and rollers
2 minCheck for foreign objects, dust buildup, misaligned gears, or stuck disc feed rollers inside.

Clean the optical laser pickup
2 minDampen a microfiber swab with 99% isopropyl alcohol and gently wipe the laser glass lens in a light circular motion.

Realign the drive mechanism gears
3 minManually rotate the white drive gear using your finger until the disc intake tray resets to its neutral home position.

Reassemble the disc drive casing
3 minSnap the top and bottom plastic casing halves back together and secure them with the Phillips screws.

Reinstall the drive and reconnect cables
3 minLower the disc drive back onto its rubber mounts, then firmly reconnect the ribbon and power harness cables.

Reattach the metal shield and faceplate
