Step-by-step
- 1
Remove the battery cover
2 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to loosen the two captive screws on the battery compartment door. Lift the door away from the gamepad.

Disconnect the battery
2 minLift the battery out of its well and gently pull the cable connector straight out of the motherboard socket.

Pry off the screw covers
3 minUse tweezers or a sharp spudger to peel off the rubber screw covers on the outer rear shell.

Unscrew the rear housing
5 minRemove the ten Tri-point Y0 screws securing the rear housing to the front assembly.

Separate the housing halves
2 minGently lift the rear housing up, taking care not to strain connected internal wires.

Disconnect the trigger button cables
3 minUnplug the small cable connectors for the L and R shoulder button assemblies from the motherboard.

Remove the joystick modules
5 minUnscrew the retaining screws on both analog stick assemblies, unlock their ZIF connectors, and remove the modules.

Disconnect the main LCD cables
4 minUse a spudger to flip up the retaining latches on the display and digitizer ZIF connectors, then slide the ribbon cables out.

2 minCarefully tilt and remove the motherboard from the front panel frame.

Apply rosin flux to damaged joints
3 minApply a small amount of liquid or paste flux to the motherboard solder pads needing repair.

Desolder defective components
10 minUse a hot soldering iron and desoldering braid to absorb old solder from damaged component pads.

Solder replacement components
12 minAlign replacement surface-mount components and solder them onto the clean pads using a fine-tip soldering iron.

Reinstall the motherboard
4 minPlace the motherboard back into the front frame and secure it with its original Phillips screws.

Reconnect LCD and digitizer ribbons
4 minInsert the display ribbon cables fully into their motherboard sockets and lock the retention latches.

Reinstall the joystick assemblies
5 minSecure the joystick modules with their screws and reconnect their ribbon cables to the board.

Reassemble the outer case
6 minReconnect the shoulder button cables, snap the rear housing back in place, and reinstall all Tri-point screws.
