Safety
- Disconnect the battery before touching internal motherboard components to avoid short circuits.

Step-by-step

Remove the stylus
1 minPull the stylus straight out from the slot on the right side of the Nintendo 2DS console.

Loosen the battery door screws
1 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to loosen the two captive screws securing the battery door.

Remove the battery cover and battery
1 minPry up the battery cover, then lift the lithium-ion battery out of its compartment.

Unscrew the rear housing
2 minRemove the ten Phillips #00 screws securing the rear housing to the front casing.

Separate the rear housing
2 minUse a plastic opening tool to gently split the seam and lift off the rear housing shell.

Disconnect the shoulder button ribbons
2 minUse tweezers to carefully lift the left and right shoulder button ribbon connectors straight off the motherboard.

Remove the circle pad module
2 minUnscrew the two Phillips #00 screws on the circle pad, flip open its ZIF retaining flap, and slide out the ribbon cable.

Disconnect the LCD and touch screen ribbons
3 minFlip up the ZIF connector locking flaps using a plastic opening tool, then slide the screen ribbon cables out.

Disconnect the camera cable and Wi-Fi module
2 minDisconnect the camera ribbon cable and carefully detach the Wi-Fi board from its slot on the motherboard.

Remove motherboard retaining screws
2 minRemove the four Phillips #00 screws securing the main logic board to the front housing assembly.

Lift out the motherboard
2 minCarefully tilt and lift the motherboard out of the front frame, making sure no cables get caught.

Solder damaged motherboard components
10 minApply flux to affected pads or component pins and use a soldering iron to repair fractured joints or replace failing components.

Reinstall the motherboard and reassemble
5 minSet the motherboard back into the front frame, reconnect all ribbon cables securely, and screw the outer housing together.
After your Nintendo 2DS motherboard repair
Power the 2DS back on and test the motherboard repair function before you put every screw away. Check touch/display response, charging, cameras, buttons, and wireless as relevant to this repair. If something fails after closing the device, reopen carefully and reseat the connectors for this Nintendo 2DS job before assuming the part is defective.
