Safety
- Wear safety glasses while soldering to protect against flux splatter.
- Perform soldering in a well-ventilated area or use a fume extractor.
- Ensure the console is powered off and the battery is completely removed before using heating tools.

Step-by-step

Unscrew the battery cover
2 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to loosen the two captive screws securing the rear battery cover.

Remove the battery
1 minPry up the plastic battery door and lift the battery out from its recess.

Remove rear housing screws
4 minExtract the nine Phillips #00 screws holding the back outer shell to the console body.

Pry open the rear housing
2 minInsert a spudger into the seam along the bottom edge and carefully lift the rear cover.

Disconnect the shoulder button ribbons
3 minUse precision tweezers to unlatch and disconnect both shoulder button ribbon cables from the motherboard.

Apply flux to HDMI port pins
2 minApply liquid rosin flux across the mounting posts and signal pins of the damaged HDMI port.

Desolder the damaged HDMI port
8 minHeat the anchor pads and signal pins using hot air or a soldering iron to lift the defective port off the board.

Clean residual solder from pads
4 minLay desoldering braid over the board pads and press with your soldering iron tip to pull up excess solder.

Tin motherboard pads
3 minApply a tiny amount of fresh solder to each clean contact pad on the board.

Solder replacement HDMI port
10 minPosition the replacement port precisely over the pads, then solder the anchor pins and signal contacts.

Clean solder residue
2 minWipe the soldered area with a cotton swab dampened with 99% isopropyl alcohol to remove leftover flux.

Reconnect shoulder button ribbons
3 minPlug the left and right shoulder button ribbon cables back into their motherboard sockets.

Reattach rear housing
4 minPress the rear shell back onto the chassis and secure it using the nine Phillips screws.

Reinstall battery and cover
2 minInsert the battery into its compartment, lower the cover, and tighten the two captive screws.
