Safety
- Disconnect the AC power cord and wait at least 5 minutes before opening the console.

- Do not pull forcefully on fragile ribbon cables or motherboard sockets.
- Keep track of all small screws to avoid leaving metal objects loose inside the power supply area.

Step-by-step

Disconnect power and external cables
2 minUnplug the AC power cord, HDMI cable, and all peripherals from the console. Place the Xbox Series X face down on a clean workspace mat.

Peel off the lower rear sticker
2 minUse tweezers to peel back the green adhesive cover at the bottom rear edge to reveal the hidden screw.

Remove the warranty label
2 minUse tweezers to carefully remove the rectangular warranty sticker located near the rear port array.

Unscrew the rear panel
3 minUse a TR8 Torx Security screwdriver to remove the two screws underneath the peeled labels.

Pry loose the back cover
4 minInsert a plastic spudger into the seam along the back panel edge and gently twist to unclip the housing.

Lift away the rear housing
2 minPull the plastic rear cover straight up from the internal frame and set it aside.

Unscrew the ribbon cable bracket
3 minRemove the single T8 Torx screw holding the lower power button flex cable cover bracket in place.

Disconnect the flex ribbon cable
2 minGently lever the flat ribbon cable connector straight up out of its socket using the edge of a spudger.

Unscrew the fan assembly
4 minRemove the three TR8 Torx Security screws securing the top fan bracket to the inner chassis.

Disconnect the fan power plug
2 minGrasp the fan cable header with tweezers and pull it straight off the main board socket.

Lift out the old fan
2 minPull the main cooling fan straight out of the top exhaust housing assembly.

Position the new fan
3 minLower the replacement fan into the top chassis bay, orienting the power wire toward the board connection.

Plug in the new fan connector
2 minPress the replacement fan power connector firmly into its motherboard socket until fully seated.

Secure the fan screws
3 minReinstall and tighten the three TR8 Torx screws to clamp the fan bracket firmly to the chassis.

Reattach the power flex cable and bracket
3 minPress the ribbon cable back into its socket, cover it with the metal bracket, and drive the single T8 screw.

Snap the rear panel into place
3 minAlign the outer back cover over the chassis and press firmly along the sides until all plastic tabs engage.

Fasten the outer casing screws
2 minThread and tighten the two TR8 Torx screws into the rear panel to lock the console closed.
