Step-by-step

Peel off the rear warranty stickers
2 minUse tweezers to carefully lift and peel away the two tamper-evident stickers on the back of the console to expose the hidden screws.

Unscrew the rear outer casing
3 minUse a TR8 Torx screwdriver to remove the two screws securing the rear panel to the console body.

Slide off the rear housing panel
3 minInsert a plastic opening tool along the seam and gently pry up the rear panel until it unclips, then slide it off.

Remove the bottom base screw
2 minLocate the single TR8 Torx screw near the bottom plastic base and unscrew it completely.

Pry off the circular bottom stand
3 minUse a plastic spudger to release the locking tabs around the perimeter of the circular base and lift it off.

Unscrew the internal chassis shield
5 minRemove the TR10 Torx screws securing the internal metal frame to the outer plastic shell.

Disconnect the disc drive power cable
2 minCarefully pull the disc drive power cable straight out of its socket on the mainboard using tweezers.

Disconnect the optical drive data cable
2 minUse a spudger to gently lift the locking tab on the SATA data connector and disconnect the ribbon cable.

Lift the disc drive out of the chassis
3 minGrasp the optical disc drive assembly firmly by its sides and lift it straight up out of the console frame.

Unscrew the disc drive metal casing
4 minRemove the four small Phillips screws holding the top metal cover onto the optical drive enclosure.

Desolder the original drive daughterboard
10 minDesolder the motor power wires from the original daughterboard so it can be swapped to the replacement drive to preserve console pairing.

Transfer the daughterboard to the new drive
10 minPlace the original daughterboard into the replacement disc drive chassis and solder the power lead wires into place.

Reassemble the disc drive housing
4 minFit the metal top cover back onto the optical drive assembly and secure it with the four Phillips screws.

Reinstall the disc drive into the console
5 minLower the repaired disc drive back into its mounting slot and reconnect the power and SATA data cables.
