Safety

Step-by-step

Peel back warranty stickers
2 minLocate the warranty stickers on the rear panel of the Xbox One X and peel them away using tweezers to expose the hidden screws.

Remove outer case screws
2 minUse a TR10 Torx Security screwdriver to remove the two rear screws holding the top outer casing in place.

Slide off top shell
2 minSlide the top cover slightly forward toward the front of the console and lift it off the chassis.

Remove bottom chassis screws
5 minUse a TR10 screwdriver to remove the long screws securing the internal metal frame to the lower shell.

Lift upper metal shield
3 minCarefully pull the upper metal shield straight up to expose the internal drives and power supply.

Disconnect power supply cables
2 minUnplug the power supply connector and harness from the motherboard using a plastic spudger.

Remove internal power supply
2 minLift the power supply unit straight up out of the chassis housing and set it aside.

Disconnect optical drive
2 minDisconnect the SATA data and power ribbon cables from the back of the disc drive assembly.

Remove hard drive assembly
3 minDisconnect the hard drive cable from the motherboard and lift the drive tray out of the console.

Disconnect Wi-Fi board
3 minUse a T6 Torx screwdriver to remove the securing screws and disconnect the Wi-Fi board module.

Remove motherboard
5 minRemove all remaining T9 Torx motherboard screws and carefully lift the board out of the lower metal shield.

Inspect for liquid corrosion
5 minExamine both sides of the motherboard under a magnifying glass to locate all spots with liquid residue or corrosion.

Scrub board with isopropyl alcohol
10 minDip a soft ESD brush in 99% isopropyl alcohol and gently scrub all corroded traces and surface-mount components.

Dry components thoroughly
15 minAllow the motherboard and surrounding parts to air dry completely in a ventilated area for at least 24 hours before reassembly.
