The 3rd generation Apple AirPods, introduced in late 2021, represent a major redesign for Apple's standard open fit earbud lineup. Borrowing heavily from the aesthetic of the AirPods Pro, these earbuds feature shorter stems, a contoured housing designed to fit a wider variety of ear shapes, and intuitive force sensor controls. Powered by the Apple H1 chip, they introduced features such as Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking, Adaptive EQ, and IPX4 sweat and water resistance to the non pro AirPods line, offering an updated audio experience for users who prefer an unsealed fit. From an ownership perspective, the 3rd generation model enhanced convenience with improved skin detect sensors that prevent false playbacks when placed in a pocket, alongside charging case options supporting MagSafe, Qi wireless, and Lightning charging.
