Netgear's Orbi series established a distinct tier in consumer and small office networking by introducing dedicated wireless backhaul channels to multi unit mesh systems. Unlike traditional Wi Fi extenders that cut bandwidth when repeating signals between hops, the Orbi platform relies on a multi band architecture—typically tri band or quad band—to preserve high throughput between the primary router node and satellite units.
