Inspect the HDMI port opening with a flashlight—if the central plastic tongue wiggles, pins look bent, or you smell faint ozone near the rear I/O panel, the mainboard needs hardware-level repair.
Soft resets vs board/panel work
Soft resets clear temporary register states in the projector's scaler and EDID memory without permanent risk. You can safely perform factory resets through the projector's built-in menu or power-cycle the unit as often as needed.
However, opening the projector chassis to test trace voltages, resolder surface-mount HDMI ports, or replace main logic boards carries significant risk. High-voltage capacitors inside projectors retain dangerous electrical charges long after being unplugged, and optical engine components are extremely sensitive to dust and misalignment.
