Eero Router Won't Turn On
If your Eero router shows no LED status light and refuses to power on, a faulty USB-C power block, thermal shutdown, or corrupted power delivery chip is usually to blame.
Symptoms
- No LED status light on the front panel of the Eero node
- Eero app lists the gateway or leaf node as offline
- Power adapter feels completely cold or unusually hot to the touch
- Front light flashes faint yellow or red briefly then turns off completely
- Router lost power after a storm or sudden power outage and won't restart

Step 1
Swap power outlets and test the power supply
Plug the Eero directly into a known-working wall outlet without using a power strip or surge protector. If the LED remains dark, test the router using another official Eero USB-C power adapter from a secondary node. Eero units use specific Power Delivery (PD) profiles; standard phone chargers often fail to output sufficient voltage.
Step 2
Perform a complete cold power cycle
Disconnect the USB-C cable from the back of the Eero unit as well as from the wall outlet. Wait at least 60 to 90 seconds to allow all internal capacitors to drain completely. Reconnect the cable firmly into the Eero first, then plug the adapter straight into the wall.
Step 3
Check for thermal overload
If the device feels hot to the touch, the internal thermal fuse may have tripped to protect the board. Unplug the Eero and move it to a flat, open surface away from direct sunlight, cabinets, or other warm electronics. Let it cool for 30 minutes before plugging it back in.
Step 4
Attempt a pinhole reset sequence
Locate the reset button on the bottom or back of the Eero. While connected to power, press and hold the button for 7 seconds to initiate a soft reset (LED should flash yellow), or hold for 15 seconds until the LED flashes red for a hard factory reset. If no light responds at all, the board is not receiving power.

What's going on
When an Eero router refuses to power on, the issue usually stems from the power delivery path rather than a dead core processor. - Incompatible replacement charger: Using a standard 5V phone charger or non-PD laptop charger that cannot provide the standard 9V/12V/15V profiles Eero hardware requires.
- Thermal safety shutdown: Poor ventilation causing internal components to overheat and cut power circuits.
- Loose or physical USB-C port damage: Stress on the power cord causing weak contact inside the port pin solder points.
- Power surge damage: A recent thunderstorm or local power grid flicker causing an electrical spike that killed the logic board's power management circuit.
Quick checks first
Before assuming your hardware is permanently dead, perform these basic triage steps:
- Isolate the wall outlet: Plug a lamp or phone charger into the exact same wall outlet to verify power is actually flowing.
- Inspect the USB-C port: Look closely inside the Eero's power port using a flashlight. Check for lint, debris, or bent metallic pins inside the connector.
