Bose Earbuds Only One Bud Charges in Case

When only one Bose earbud charges in the case, dirty pogo pins, misaligned silicone stability bands, or a deeply discharged battery cell are usually to blame. Here is how to troubleshoot and fix it.

What's going on

Bose true wireless earbuds rely on low-voltage spring-loaded pogo pins inside the case to interface with the exposed copper or gold pads on each bud.

Because these contact pads rest directly against your skin and ear anatomy, organic buildup like sweat, sebum, and wax frequently coats the contact surfaces. Even an invisible film of oil can act as an insulator, preventing the charge circuit from sensing that the bud is docked. Quick checks first

Before assuming your Bose earbud has suffered a total hardware failure, execute these simple triage checks:

Soft resets vs board/panel work

Performing a soft reset reboots the micro-controllers running the power management state machines on both the case and the buds. This is completely safe, preserves your hardware, and frequently solves phantom charging failures after firmware updates.

However, disassembling a Bose earbud housing or attempting to desolder the micro-circuit board is not a practical DIY repair.
