BenQ Projector Lamp / Laser Not Lighting
When your BenQ projector powers on but fails to ignite its UHP lamp or solid-state laser, the fix can range from resetting a door safety switch to replacing the lamp module or ballast board.
Symptoms
- Power LED turns green or blue, but the lens projects no light
- Lamp LED flashes red or glows solid orange shortly after pressing power
- Fans spin at maximum speed immediately followed by automatic shutdown

What's going on

Likely causes
- Burnt or Shattered Lamp: Standard arc lamps have a finite lifespan (typically 2,000–10,000 hours depending on Eco mode settings). As electrodes degrade, ignition becomes impossible.
- Tripped Lamp Door Interlock: If the lamp cover was bumped or not fully tightened, its safety switch breaks the control circuit.
- Faulty Ballast Board: The ballast converts standard power into the high-voltage spike needed for ignition. Swollen capacitors or blown MOSFETs on this board prevent light delivery.

If the lamp switch is closed, filters are clean, and a brand-new original lamp module fails to ignite, the problem lies inside the projector's internal power circuits:
- Blown Ballast Board: Common on well-used BenQ DLP models. When ballasts fail, they often short out without showing visible burn marks.
- Laser Light Engine / Driver Failure: Solid-state laser models do not use replaceable bulbs. If the laser bank or diode driver board degrades, the optical module must be replaced or serviced as a unit.
- Failed Optical Sensors: Color wheel sensors or fan tachometers that stop sending speed signals to the mainboard will cause the system to suppress ignition.

Soft resets vs board/panel work
Performing a soft reset (unplugging for 15 minutes or clearing eco-timer settings via menu when visible) clears temporary logic glitches and thermal lock states. Lamp swaps are also standard user-serviceable procedures on traditional bulb-based BenQ models.
