Anker Earbuds Won't Turn On

If your Anker Soundcore earbuds won't turn on or charge, the problem is usually blocked contact pins, factory insulation film, or a deep-discharge sleep state. Here is how to fix them.

Symptoms

  • One or both Anker earbuds fail to light up when removed from the case
  • No voice prompt or power chime plays when touching the sensor
  • Charging case lights turn on but the earbuds show no charge activity
  • Earbuds remain undetected in smartphone Bluetooth settings
  • One earbud works normally while the other remains completely dark
  • Touch sensors fail to respond after leaving the earbuds idle

Quick troubleshooting

  1. Step 1

    Peel Off Factory Protective Film

If your Anker Soundcore earbuds are brand new, check the golden charging contacts on each stem. Anker ships many models with small yellow or clear protective stickers over the pads. Remove these films completely before placing the earbuds back in the case to charge.

  2. Step 2

Clean Case Pins and Contact Pads

Dip a cotton swab in 90% or higher isopropyl alcohol and firmly rub the brass pads on the earbuds. Use a flash light to check inside the case wells and clean the tiny spring pins. Gently push down on the pins with a wooden toothpick to ensure they spring back properly.

  3. Step 3

    Force a Deep-Discharge Recovery Charge

When an earbud battery sits at zero percent for weeks, its internal protective circuit shuts down. Dock both earbuds in the case, connect a standard 5V/1A USB charger, and leave it connected uninterrupted for at least two hours. Avoid ultra-fast high-wattage phone bricks during recovery.

  4. Step 4

Perform an Anker Factory Soft Reset

Place both earbuds in the charging case with the lid open. Press and hold the button on the back or bottom of the charging case for 10 seconds until the earbud LED indicators flash red or white three times. This clears stored Bluetooth pairing states and reboots the control IC.

Likely causes

  • Oxidation, earwax, or skin oils blocking the brass contact pads
  • Factory protective film left on the contact pins of new earbuds
  • Internal earbud micro-battery entered deep-discharge sleep mode
  • Stuck spring pin inside the charging case preventing electrical contact
  • Firmware glitch causing the Bluetooth chip to freeze in standby
  • Liquid or sweat ingress causing an internal power rail short

What's going on

Anker Soundcore earbuds rely on low-voltage physical Pogo contacts to initiate charging and signal state changes. When an earbud fails to turn on, it rarely means the entire driver or mainboard died instantly. More often, a micro-layer of earwax, skin oil, or factory film has broken the electrical circuit, or the earbud's tiny lithium-ion cell dropped below its minimum voltage threshold into a safety sleep state.

Symptoms people notice

  • Single dead earbud while the companion works fine.
  • Earbud touch controls unresponsive with no LED illumination.
  • Case LEDs blink normally, but earbuds show no sign of life.
  • Earbuds fail to enter pairing mode when taken out of the case.
  • Disconnects instantly after pulling from the charging dock.

Likely causes

Most power failures on Anker wireless earbuds come down to charging path friction. Factory protective film is a common oversight on brand-new units. For used pairs, sweat corrosion or wax buildup on the golden contacts prevents current from reaching the internal battery. In other cases, leaving the earbuds dead for weeks triggers a deep-sleep protection lockout that standard USB trickle charging won't immediately clear.

Quick checks first

Start with the simplest mechanical fixes. First, verify whether new earbuds still have transparent insulation stickers covering the brass pads. Next, inspect the inside of the charging case with a flashlight; spring-loaded pins can occasionally get stuck down in recess holes due to gunk. Read our guide on general earbuds troubleshooting for more cross-brand power tips, or check Anker brand specs to locate your specific model's reset button layout.

When it's a real hardware fault

If cleaning the contact pads and holding a 10-second reset does not yield a flashing LED light, you may be facing hardware failure. Liquid damage from sweat penetrating the micro-seals can short out the internal charging controller. Similarly, if an earbud lithium cell stays at 0V for too long, it permanently swells or loses its chemical potential, rendering it incapable of holding a charge.

Soft resets vs board/panel work

Software bugs in the Bluetooth controller can freeze the power state of the earbud, making it act completely dead. Performing a factory reset while docked resets the internal chip register. However, replacing internal earbud micro-batteries or soldering broken case pins is generally not a viable DIY fix due to glued enclosures and tiny form factors. If a soft reset fails after thoroughly cleaning contacts, replacing the affected earbud or case is standard practice. Check our device reviews section for reliable replacement gear.
