Step-by-step

Power off the tablet
1 minPress and hold the Power button until the power options menu appears, then tap Power Off. Ensure the tablet is completely powered down before proceeding.

Remove the microSD card
1 minOpen the microSD slot cover on the side of the tablet. Press the memory card inward until it clicks, then release and pull it out of the slot.

Unclip the rear cover
5 minInsert a plastic opening tool into the seam between the front display assembly and the rear cover. Pry gently along all edges to release the plastic internal clips, then lift off the back cover.

Disconnect the battery cable
2 minLocate the battery connector on the motherboard. Pry the connector straight up using a plastic spudger to safely disconnect the battery power.

Disconnect the display ribbon cables
3 minUse a spudger to flip up the small locking levers on the ZIF connectors for the display and digitizer. Carefully slide the ribbon cables out of their sockets.

Remove the motherboard screws
3 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the screws holding the motherboard to the inner frame. Store the screws in a secure location for reassembly.

Lift out the motherboard
2 minGently lift the motherboard from the edge opposite the port cutouts. Set the board aside on an anti-static surface.

Peel up the old home button flex cable
3 minUse fine tweezers to slide under the home button flex cable located at the bottom of the front frame. Carefully lift the flex cable away from the mild adhesive holding it down.

Install the new home button flex cable
3 minPeel off the protective adhesive backing on the replacement home button flex cable. Align the button contact with the bottom frame bracket and press down firmly to set the adhesive.

Reinstall the motherboard
4 minLower the motherboard back into the frame, making sure ribbon cables are clear and not trapped underneath. Reinstall and tighten the motherboard screws.

Reconnect all ribbon cables
3 minSlide the display and digitizer ribbon cables back into their respective ZIF sockets. Flip down the locking levers to clamp the cables in place.

Reconnect battery and reattach rear cover
3 minPress the battery connector firmly onto its motherboard socket. Align the rear cover over the tablet and press along the outer edges until all perimeter clips click into place.
