Step-by-step

Shut down Surface Pro 9
1 minPower down the device completely through Windows and unplug all external cables.

Heat screen perimeter
3 minApply heat evenly around the outer edges of the glass display for two minutes to soften the adhesive.

Attach suction cup
1 minPlace a heavy-duty suction cup near the top center edge of the screen glass.

Slice screen adhesive
5 minPull up gentle tension on the suction cup and insert a guitar pick under the glass. Slide it along the edge to cut through adhesive.

Separate display panel
5 minContinue slicing adhesive around all four sides, keeping the pick depth under 3mm. Carefully tilt the display open from the right edge.

Disconnect display ribbon cable

2 minUse tweezers to lift the bracket and pull out the faulty power button tact switch module.

Insert new power button module
2 minAlign the replacement power button switch inside the frame cutout and seat it flush.

Secure power button bracket
2 minPlace the metal retention bracket over the switch and tighten the bracket screws firmly.

Reconnect power flex cable
1 minPress the power button flex cable press-connector squarely onto the motherboard socket until it clicks.

Reinstall motherboard shield
4 minLower the main motherboard shield back into place and secure all T3 Torx screws.

Clean old display adhesive
4 minUse isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth to remove leftover adhesive residue from the frame and screen back.

Connect display ribbon cable
2 minAttach the display connector to the motherboard and snap the small cable shield into place.

Apply fresh display adhesive
5 minPlace pre-cut adhesive strips along the inner frame lip, remove protective backings, and press the display firmly down.
