   Power off device completely

   Shut down Windows and disconnect the power cable along with any attached peripherals. Put on an anti-static wrist strap before continuing.

   Heat the glass edges

   Use a heat gun on low power to warm the outer borders of the screen glass for two minutes. Keep the heat source moving constantly to avoid scorching the display.

   Attach a suction cup

   Press a heavy-duty suction cup near the top center edge of the screen glass. Pull upward gently until a subtle gap opens along the bezel seam.

   Insert opening pick

   Slide a plastic opening pick into the gap created by the suction cup. Do not insert the pick deeper than 3 millimeters to avoid damaging internal ribbons.

   Slice perimeter adhesive

   Slide picks carefully around the top, left, and right sides to separate the adhesive. Apply additional mild heat if the pick meets strong resistance.

   Open the display assembly

   Gently tilt the screen up from the right edge, opening it like a book cover. Keep the display resting upright so you do not strain the underlying flex cables.

   Unscrew display cable shield

   Locate the metal shield covering the display connectors on the lower right corner of the mainboard. Remove the small Torx screws holding it down.

   Disconnect the display cables

   Use a plastic spudger to gently pry the display ribbon connectors straight up from their sockets. Lift the screen panel away and set it aside.

   Disconnect the battery

   Locate the battery flex connector near the bottom edge of the board. Disconnect it using a plastic tool to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

    Remove heatsink assembly

    Unscrew the Torx screws securing the copper heatsink over the CPU. Carefully lift the heatsink off and clean away old thermal paste using isopropyl alcohol.

    Disconnect internal ribbon cables

    Unplug the camera modules, speakers, micro-SD board, and Surface Connect port press-fit connectors using a plastic pry tool.

    Unscrew the logic board

    Remove all retaining Torx screws securing the logic board to the aluminum chassis. Store screws by length to ensure proper reassembly.

    Lift out the logic board

    Carefully tilt the logic board up from the top edge and pull it free from the frame. Verify that no remaining wires or flex ribbons are snagged.

    Apply fresh thermal paste

    Dispense a small pea-sized drop of fresh thermal compound onto the processor surface of the replacement logic board.

    Install replacement logic board

    Seat the new logic board flat into the chassis and secure it with the retaining screws. Reattach the copper heatsink over the processor.
