   Power down the Surface Pro

   Ensure the Surface Pro 5 is completely turned off and disconnected from the power adapter. Put on an anti-static wrist strap to prevent ESD damage.

   Heat the screen edges

   Use a heat gun or hairdryer on medium heat around the outer glass edges for two minutes to soften the strong perimeter adhesive. Keep the heat source moving constantly to avoid spot-damaging the panel.

   Attach the suction cup

   Press a heavy-duty suction cup onto the upper left corner of the screen glass. Pull up firmly to create a tiny gap between the glass and the magnesium frame.

   Insert an opening pick

   Insert a thin plastic opening pick into the seam opened by the suction cup. Do not push the pick deeper than 3-4 mm to avoid damaging internal components.

   Slice the top edge adhesive

   Slide the plastic pick carefully along the top edge to separate the adhesive. Take extra care around the top-center webcams and IR sensor array.

   Slice the side edge adhesive

   Guide the pick down the left and right edges of the screen frame. Reapply heat with your hairdryer if the adhesive becomes stiff or difficult to cut.

   Slice the bottom edge adhesive

   Carefully slice along the bottom edge near the keyboard connector, keeping the pick shallow. Avoid inserting tools deep into the lower left corner where screen flex cables reside.

   Lift the display assembly

   Gently tilt the screen open from the top edge like a book cover. Do not pull the screen away entirely yet, as it remains connected by ribbon cables near the bottom.

   Remove the display shield screws

   Locate the metal shield covering the display flex cable connectors on the lower left of the motherboard. Use a T3 Torx screwdriver to remove the securing screws.

    Remove the metal shield

    Use fine tweezers to gently lift the metal shield off the board and place it aside. This exposes the dual screen cable connectors underneath.

    Disconnect the display flex cables

    Use the flat end of a plastic spudger to pry the display and digitizer connectors straight up from their motherboard sockets. Never use metal tools directly on board connectors.

    Remove the damaged screen

    Lift the display assembly completely off the Surface Pro chassis and set it aside. Inspect the interior frame for loose adhesive fragments or glass splinters.

    Scrape away old adhesive

    Clean all residual adhesive tape from the magnesium chassis perimeter using a plastic spudger. Wipe the frame with 99% isopropyl alcohol until clean and smooth.

    Apply fresh adhesive strips

    Peel and carefully align the new pre-cut adhesive strips onto the perimeter frame of the chassis. Press down firmly, but do not remove the top protective backing layer yet.

    Connect the new screen cables

    Position the new screen near the frame and snap the digitizer and display flex connectors onto the motherboard sockets. Press gently until you feel them click securely into place.

    Reinstall the metal shield

    Place the metal EMI shield back over the display connectors. Fasten it securely with the T3 Torx screws removed earlier.

    Test display function

    Power on the Surface Pro to verify image rendering and touch responsiveness across the panel. Shut the device back down completely before final sealing.

    Seal the new screen

    Peel the protective backing off the perimeter adhesive strips. Carefully lower the new screen onto the frame, align all edges, and press firmly around the border.
