Step-by-step

Heat the front display perimeter
5 minUse a heat gun or iOpener around the edges of the display to soften the strong adhesive holding the glass.

Attach a suction cup to the glass
2 minPlace a suction cup near the top edge of the screen and pull upward firmly to create a small gap.

Slice perimeter adhesive with opening picks
10 minInsert a plastic opening pick into the gap and carefully slide it around the perimeter to separate the screen.

Lift and fold open the display assembly
2 minGently swing the display open from the top edge, taking care not to strain the ribbon cables at the bottom.

Disconnect the display ribbon cables
3 minUse a spudger to pry up the press connectors securing the display cables to the logic board, then set the screen aside.

Remove the thermal shield screws
5 minUnscrew the Torx screws securing the large metal shield covering the motherboard and cooling assembly.

Lift out the internal metal shield
2 minCarefully pry up and remove the metal EMI shield to expose the logic board and cooling fans.
