Step-by-step

Power off the iPad Mini 7
1 minPress and hold the top button and volume down button until the slider appears, then slide to power off. Unplug all cables before proceeding.

Heat the front display edges
3 minApply a heated iOpener or heat gun around the perimeter of the screen for two minutes to soften the screen adhesive.

Apply a suction cup
2 minPlace a suction cup near the middle of the left edge of the glass assembly. Pull up firmly to create a micro gap between the glass and body.

Insert an opening pick
2 minInsert a thin plastic opening pick into the gap created by the suction cup. Carefully slice through the adhesive along the left edge.

Slice top and bottom adhesive

Slice the right side adhesive
3 minGuide the opening pick down the right edge carefully, taking extreme care near the display ribbon cables situated toward the right side.

Open the display assembly
2 minGently lift the display open from the left edge like a book, supporting it against a stable object so you do not strain the fragile flex cables.

Unscrew the main shield plate
3 minRemove the four Phillips screws holding the protective metal cover over the logic board connectors.

Remove the connector shield
1 minUse precision tweezers to lift the metal shield off the logic board and set it aside.

Disconnect the battery
2 minPry the battery connector straight up off its logic board socket using the flat end of a plastic spudger to cut power.

Remove the old charging port
1 minSlide the USB-C port housing out from its recess in the bottom edge of the frame.

Clean adhesive residue
4 minClean remaining adhesive off the inner casing and frame channels using 99% isopropyl alcohol and a microfiber cloth.

Install the new charging port assembly
3 minSlide the new USB-C port into the housing slot on the bottom of the iPad, pressing the flex cable flat onto the frame.

Connect the charging port cable
2 minAlign the flex cable press connector over its logic board socket and press firmly until it clicks into place.

Secure the charging port bracket
2 minPlace the metal retention bracket back over the USB-C port and reinstall the two screws.

Reconnect the display and battery cables
3 minSnap the digitizer and display cables onto their logic board sockets, then reconnect the main battery cable.

Reinstall the main shield plate
3 minReposition the metal shield over the logic board connectors and fasten the four Phillips screws.

Apply display adhesive strips
4 minApply new pre-cut perimeter adhesive strips along the edges of the aluminum enclosure.
