   Discharge the battery

   Drain the iPad battery below 25% before starting. A charged lithium-ion battery can catch fire if accidentally punctured during repair.

   Heat the front glass edges

   Use a heat gun or heating pad around the perimeter of the screen for two minutes. This softens the perimeter adhesive holding the display assembly.

   Attach a suction handle

   Place a suction cup on the upper portion of the glass screen near the front camera. Press down firmly to create a tight seal.

   Insert an opening pick

   Pull up gently on the suction cup handle to create a small gap at the top edge. Insert an opening pick no deeper than 3 mm into the seam.

   Slice the right edge adhesive

   Slide the opening pick along the right edge of the iPad to cut through the adhesive. Reapply heat if the pick meets strong resistance.

   Slice the top and bottom adhesive

   Carefully guide your pick across the top and bottom edges. Keep the pick shallow to avoid damaging sensitive components near the ambient light sensor.

   Slice the left edge adhesive

   Slice through the adhesive tape along the left side of the tablet. Take extra care around flex cables located beneath the glass.

   Open the display assembly

   Gently lift the top edge of the display and swing it open toward the right side like a book. Rest the screen against a stable object so it does not pull on the cables.

   Unscrew the display bracket

   Use a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove the four screws holding the metal connector shield over the logic board.

    Remove the metal display bracket

    Grasp the metal display cable shield with tweezers and lift it off the board. Store it in a safe place with its dedicated screws.

    Disconnect the display cables

    Use the flat end of a plastic spudger to pry the display flex connectors straight up from their motherboard sockets.

    Separate the display assembly

    Lift the entire screen assembly off the frame and set it aside in a clean, dust-free area.

    Unscrew the battery connector

    Remove the single screw locking the battery power terminal to the logic board using your Phillips screwdriver.

    Apply isopropyl alcohol under the battery

    Drip high-concentration isopropyl alcohol under the edges of both battery cells. Allow it to sit for two minutes to dissolve the adhesive beneath.

    Pry up the battery cells

    Work a plastic opening card under the outer edges of the battery cells and gently pry upward. Do not use metal tools or puncture the soft casing.

    Lift out the old battery

    Grasp the loosened battery by its sides and remove it completely from the iPad chassis.

    Clean adhesive residue

    Scrape remaining adhesive off the aluminum casing using a spudger and wipe the area clean with isopropyl alcohol on a cloth.

    Install the new battery

    Apply pre-cut adhesive strips to the housing, lay the new battery into position, and press firmly to secure it.
