Step-by-step

Power down the iPad
1 minPress and hold the top button and either volume button, then slide to power off the device completely.

Heat the display perimeter
3 minApply a heat gun or hair dryer around the outer glass edges for two minutes to soften the underlying adhesive.

Attach a suction cup
1 minPlace a suction cup near the bottom center edge of the display glass and press down to seal.

Insert an opening pick
2 minPull up firmly on the suction cup handle to create a small gap, then slide an opening pick into the seam.

Slice the bottom adhesive
