Step-by-step

Heat the display perimeter
3 minApply a heat gun or hair dryer around the outer glass edges of the iPad Mini 5 for 2 to 3 minutes to soften the display adhesive.

Attach the suction cup
2 minPlace a suction cup near the bottom center of the front glass, just above the Home button.

Slice the display adhesive
8 minPull up gently on the suction cup to create a small gap, then insert a plastic opening pick under the glass perimeter to cut the adhesive.

Open the display assembly
2 minPivot the glass carefully from the left side toward the right, opening it like a book cover.

Unscrew the main shield
4 minUse a Precision Phillips screwdriver to remove the four retaining screws securing the metal EMI shield over the logic board connectors.

Remove the metal shield
1 minUse tweezers to lift the metal shield off the board and place it aside.

3 minUse precision tweezers to unseat the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth antenna coaxial connectors from the logic board.

Unplug the button flex connector
2 minDisconnect the ribbon cable controls for the power and volume buttons from the side of the board.

Remove logic board screws
4 minUnscrew all Phillips fasteners anchoring the logic board to the aluminum rear casing.

Warm the rear enclosure
3 minApply mild heat to the back exterior of the iPad casing to soften the glue holding the logic board down.

Lift out the logic board
5 minSlide a thin plastic opening card under the logic board to break the underlying adhesive, then carefully lift the board out of the chassis.
