Step-by-step

Heat the front display edges
3 minApply heat around the outer glass border using a heat gun or hair dryer to soften the strong adhesive underneath.

Attach the suction cup
1 minPlace a suction cup near the bottom edge of the glass, just above the Home button, and press firmly to seal.

Insert an opening pick
2 minPull up gently on the suction cup to create a small gap and slide a plastic guitar pick under the glass bezel.

Slice through the glass adhesive
5 minSlide plastic picks around all four edges of the iPad Mini to separate the digitizer adhesive completely.

Fold open the digitizer glass
1 minGently lift the left side of the front glass and hinge it open toward the right side like a book cover.

Unscrew the LCD panel
2 minRemove the four Phillips #00 screws located at the outer corners of the LCD display panel.

Lift the LCD panel
2 minCarefully pry up the top edge of the LCD screen and fold it downward over the lower bezel.

Unscrew the metal EMI shield
4 minRemove the sixteen Phillips #00 screws securing the large metal shield plate to the chassis.

Remove the EMI shield plate
1 minLift the metal EMI shield straight up out of the rear aluminum housing and set it aside.

Disconnect the battery connection
2 minRemove the battery screw and place a plastic blocker or pick beneath the battery contact to disconnect power.

Disconnect the display cables
3 minUse a spudger to pop off the display and digitizer flex cable connectors from the logic board.

Unscrew the power button bracket
2 minRemove the two Phillips screws securing the internal metal power button bracket in the upper corner.

Pry up the power button flex cable
3 minCarefully slide a spudger under the adhesive-backed power button cable to free it from the enclosure.

Remove the defective power button assembly
1 minPull the power button button contact and ribbon cable assembly completely out of the upper housing frame.

Install the new power button assembly
3 minAlign the new power button contact into the housing cutout and secure the metal retaining bracket with its screws.

Reconnect the logic board connectors
4 minPress the power button flex cable, digitizer, and LCD cable connectors firmly back onto their sockets.
